Special-Interest Groups [Student Assist Team]

In the western countries, pursuing a doctorate (PhD) means acquiring a higher ability for  deep understanding in the field and getting PhD is a prerequisite for a research career in industry. In Japan, it is generally believed that pursuing a doctorate means narrowing himself/herself down into a very special area and that the person is less suitable for a research career in industry. The consortium aims for changing this myth and to contribute to revitalize industries in Japan. The graduate students of life sciences in four universities will have a career in many different fields and they need to be flexible enough to fit into a variety of research activity styles. An internship program in the consortium making advantage of links between the university and local firms and government in each university will be a good training experience for the students.  The consortium supports students establishing links to the society which are the seeds for the future innovations in industrial area.
