A series of advanced lectures on chemical biology begin!!
June 2, 2009 Announcement for a series of advanced lectures on chemical biology(Ochanomizu University Graduate School). |
A series of advanced lectures on chemical biology will be conducted by Ochanomizu University and the Tokyo Medical and Dental University. The first lecture of this series will be held by Dr. Fabian Mohr (Junior professor, Univ. Wuppertal, Germany) at Ochanomizu University on July 23-24. Though the details are given below. Though this course is provided for master course students majoring in science, but students in doctor course or undergraduate students in any discipline are welcomed to audit the lectures. The schedule of other lectures will be announced shortly. For further information, please contact Narumi Sato (sato.narumi@ocha.ac.jp), Keiko Miyamoto (miyamoto.keiko@ocha.ac.jp) or Kei Yura (yura.kei@ocha.ac.jp) or in the office of Support Program for Globalization of Education in Universities at center for Informational Biology. <Lectures on 23-24, July> Metals in Medicine: the past, the present and the future Metal ions are vitally important to maintain our bodies, and bioactive metal complexes are playing more and more important roles in medicine. Dr. Fabian Mohr will talk about “Metals in Medicine: the past, the present and the future”. [Date]: Thursday July 23 10:40-12:10 and 15:00-16:30 Friday July 24 9:00-10:30 [Place]: Room No.415, Faculty of Science, Building 1 [Lecturer]: Dr. Fabian Mohr (Junior Professor, Univ. Wuppertal, Germany) Research of Dr.Fabian Mohr focuses on organometallic chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry and catalysis involving precious metals. In particular, the biological activity (cancer and malaria) of gold and platinum complexes with sulfur and selenium ligands are being investigated. [Program] Part 1 (10:40-12:10, 23rd (Thu) July) General aspects and an overview of metal complexes used in medicine. Part 2 (15:00-16:30, 23rd (Thu) July) Platinum complexes in cancer therapy: A short history and current research activities. Part 3 (9:00-10:30, 24th (Fri) July) Chrysotherapy: Gold compounds in medicine. Special properties of gold compounds and their use in the treatment of arthritis, cancer and malaria. ※ We will have a reception with Dr. Fabian Mohr from 18:00-on 23rd July.
