Outline
  • Lectures on specialized life science subjects in English in Japan

The lectures in the master's program of Tokyo Medical and Dental University Graduate School and Ochanomizu University Graduate School are given by lecturers from both universities and from universities overseas. Lectures in the life sciences are presented at seminars for one to two weeks. In the Tokyo Medical and Dental University Graduate School, lectures are presented especially on bioinformatics, chemical biology, and translational research based on medical practice. At the Ochanomizu University Graduate School, lectures are presented on general materials and life sciences, including computational biology and chemical biology based on basic science. At the Tokyo Medical and Dental University Graduate School and Ochanomizu University Graduate School, credits for every lecture in the program will transfer so that students can attend the lectures and earn credits for graduation for both graduate schools. In addition, the students from the graduate schools that concluded a credit transfer agreement with both graduate schools can include the credits from these lectures in the credits for graduation by following the prescribed procedures.

  • Short- and mid-term acceptance of graduate students from overseas universities

The Tokyo Medical and Dental University Graduate School and Ochanomizu University Graduate School accept graduate students from overseas, including Asian countries (who are in courses equivalent to a master's degree course) over the short and mid terms for participation in research (internship program). We provide opportunities for students to experience and study chemical biology, translational research, computational biology, and structural computational science and to establish human networks for their careers by deepening the exchanges with Japanese graduate students and internship students participating in the program. If you would like to participate in this program, please visit here for details.

  • Overseas visiting lectures by professors of both universities

At the Tokyo Medical and Dental University Graduate School and Ochanomizu University Graduate School, the professors are involved in educational research at the forefront of life sciences. These professors are dispatched to graduate schools overseas for one to two weeks for intensive lectures. All costs related to the overseas business trip will be covered by this program so that the graduate schools inviting them need not bear the costs. The lecturers from the Tokyo Medical and Dental University Graduate School are experts in chemical biology, bioinformatics, molecular structural science, immunological and neurological science, and genome science. The lecturers from the Ochanomizu University Graduate School are experts in bioinformatics, structural computational chemistry, and biochemistry. These areas are rapidly progressing and the lecturers from one graduate school cannot cover them all, however, these areas are what we would like graduate students who will become researchers to understand. Details are provided here for people in charge of graduate school education programs both in Japan and abroad.

  • Multiple supervisor system for graduate school master’s degree program with participation by professors from partner universities overseas

In master's degree courses at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University Graduate School and Ochanomizu University Graduate School, guidance by multiple supervisors has already been introduced. When the research themes for students in the master's degree course match the expertise of professors from universities overseas, they are included with multiple supervisors and offer part of the research education in the master's degree course in English. We plan to provide certificates to students who acquired credits to certify that they received guidance in English. These are trials on how to implement joint degree programs.

  • Research on operation method of joint degree education program
Many universities in Japan and overseas have already introduced joint/double degree systems. The professors from the Tokyo Medical and Dental University Graduate School and Ochanomizu University Graduate School investigate these systems and study which kind of joint/double degree system we should introduce.
Technologies to put activities into practice: TV conference system and e-learning

The Tokyo Medical and Dental University Graduate School and Ochanomizu University Graduate School aim to internationalize and improve graduate school lectures by introducing a standardized TV conference system and e-learning system. The introduction of a TV conference system enables the establishment of a program promotion committee that includes professors from overseas and the following.

  • Participation in lectures at every program base

You can participate in lectures at Ochanomizu University Graduate School while staying at Tokyo Medical and Dental University Graduate School and vice versa.

  • Follow-up of lectures

When you cannot understand the lectures by the teachers invited from overseas, you can directly ask the lecturers questions using the TV conference system afterwards.

  • Discussions with overseas supervisors for graduate school master's degree program

When professors from overseas are included as research supervisors, students can discuss with the mentor using the TV conference system whenever necessary.

  • Review the lectures using e-learning system

When you cannot attend the lecture course due to the schedule for experiments in master's thesis research or would like to know the details of the past seminars, you can audit all the lectures by accessing the streaming server of the e-learning system (you cannot earn credits).
